AI content rules on every game store and asset marketplace (2026)

Short answer: Steam is the strictest PC store. Asset marketplaces (itch.io assets, Fab, Godot Asset Store) require AI tagging. Microsoft/Xbox, Google Play and Apple regulate runtime AI and player data. Epic Games Store asks nothing.

One write-up that answers every store

  1. An inventory of AI content that ships, by type (art, audio, text, code) with tool and plan.
  2. A guardrail paragraph for any runtime AI: filters, topic limits, length caps.
  3. An in-game report path for live AI output (required by Xbox and Google Play; on Steam, Valve says players report live-generated AI content through the in-game overlay).
  4. A note of which cloud AI services receive player input (Apple requires consent).

FAQ

Which game stores require AI disclosure?

Steam requires disclosure of AI content that ships and of live-generated AI. itch.io requires it for asset pages (and asks games to tag), Fab and the Godot Asset Store require it for assets. Microsoft Store/Xbox and Google Play regulate live/runtime generative AI. Epic Games Store has no AI disclosure requirement.

Do I need to disclose AI coding assistants?

Not on Steam: Valve says efficiency gains from AI tools used during development are not the focus; it covers content that ships and is consumed by players. Other stores we track don't target coding tools either.

What changes for games with live AI NPCs?

Steam wants your guardrails described; Microsoft Store/Xbox (policy 11.16) wants metadata disclosure and an in-product report path; Google Play wants offensive output prevented and in-app flagging; Apple wants explicit consent before personal data goes to a third-party AI.

Do PlayStation or Nintendo have AI rules?

No public AI-specific submission policy was found; requirements are in NDA partner programs.
