Does Steam allow AI-generated art?
Short answer: Yes. Steam accepts games with AI-generated art, audio and text if you disclose it in the Content Survey. Valve reviews AI output the same way as any other content, shows much of your disclosure on the store page, and asks for guardrails if the game generates content live. AI tools used only to work faster, such as coding assistants, are not the focus of the disclosure. Your AI tool's licence still has to allow commercial use.

What the official terms say
"Efficiency gains through the use of these tools is not the focus of this section. Instead, it is concerned with the use of AI in creating content that ships with your game, and is consumed by players."
"In our prerelease review, we will evaluate the output of AI generated content in your game the same way we evaluate all non-AI content"
"in the Content Survey, you'll need to tell us what kind of guardrails you're putting on your AI to ensure it's not generating illegal content."
"We will also include much of your disclosure on the Steam store page for your game, so customers can also understand how the game uses AI."
"Using the in-game overlay, players can easily submit a report when they encounter content that they believe should have been caught by appropriate guardrails on AI generation."

What it means for your game
- Pre-generated art (made during development): allowed; declare it. Valve checks it isn't infringing or illegal, like any content.
- Live-generated AI (at runtime): allowed; describe your guardrails. Players can report output through the overlay.
- Coding assistants and other efficiency tools: not the focus of the disclosure.
- Licence check: free tiers of several image and 3D tools don't allow commercial use. See the table below.
- Full checklist: see our Steam AI disclosure guide.

FAQ
Will Steam reject my game for using AI art?
Not for using AI as such. Valve says it evaluates AI-generated content in pre-release review the same way as all non-AI content, including checking it isn't infringing or illegal.
Does Steam show that my game uses AI?
Yes. Valve says it includes much of your AI disclosure on the game's store page.
Do I need to disclose AI-generated store art or capsules on Steam?
Valve's survey covers content that ships with your game and is consumed by players. Store graphics aren't named explicitly, so the cautious course is to declare them too.
Do I need to disclose using ChatGPT or Copilot for code on Steam?
Valve says efficiency gains from AI tools used during development are not the focus; the survey covers content that ships and is consumed by players.
